So, a caterpillar showed up in our kitchen, munching on the borage flowers I had stuck in a bottle by the sink. And after a few days of growing almost exponentially, he attached himself to what remained of the stem and hung upside down. The next morning, chrysallis! He jumped and jerked around in there for most of the morning, which made me realize transformation is probably not the most comfortable thing while it's happening. But it fills me with me with a sort of awe-filled joy to realize this caterpillar is going to turn into a butterfly soon. Totally amazing to see it taking place, and that's just from the outside. Of course, it might also turn out to be very ugly moth (i wasn't able to identify the caterpillar even after an hour with the internet). But i don't think i'll be too disappointed. It still feels like kind of a privilege to see this happen.
And speaking of other things I'm liking, the Scribd ebook/audiobook subscription i have has turned out to be pretty great. I tried them about a year ago, and didn't find much to read, but now they have probably 3/4 of the newish book recommendations i want. Although currently I'm listening to a classic: The Brothers Karamazov, read by Tim Piggott-Smith. It's been over a decade since i read it, but i still remember the story vividly as i'm listening to it again. Although i can't remember what happens in the next 100 chapters or so to make it quite so long. ;)
Also liking how much Kaylen talks, how independent Penny tries to be (i found on her on the toilet last night without a potty seat, because she wanted to do it "self", and how extremely easy-going Lincoln is.
Also, coffee.
