Fall Day

October is almost over, but it's still beautiful out. You could see your breath this morning, but a few minutes ago I went outside to take pictures and didn't need a coat. (Supposed to snow on Tuesday, though.)

Our apple tree has yet to turn all yellow-leaved

Current reading material

I know I have hundreds of books to choose from now, but all I wanted to read was Little House in the Big Woods and all the rest of the Little House books. It makes me think maybe to get ready for winter properly I need to have Jason catch a few deer and then butcher a pig. Although I will pass on making the headcheese Ma made, thank you. (Ma was a really inventive woman. I never used to like her much, but since I've re-read the books as an adult, she's become one of my favorite characters. In chapter two, she "only likes things on her table that are pretty," so during the winter, when the cows are producing whiter milk than usual, she grates carrots to extract a yellow dye to keep the butter properly yellow.)
