WEEDS

No pretty pictures, although weeds are not entirely ugly. But if you want to hear how my garden's growing, that one word sums it up. Although, thanks to my marvelous mother, i pulled a lot of those pesky weeds this morning. And she pulled the rogue squash that I was afraid to pull due to its being infested with earwigs.

I used string to tie up the drooping Black Krim tomato in the greenhouse, which also gives the peppers next to it more room. I was going to fertilize and water them, too, but there were two very nasty spiders living behind the fertilizer bag so that's gonna have to wait for another day...

Our new flower bed next to the house is still waiting on topsoil, but it's got an amazing quantity of bindwind growing there, plus a bunch of surprise sunflowers. Thank you, little finches. I guess that makes it a symbiotic relationship with us feeding them? The sunflowers are the saving grace of that bed. I'm glad I realized what they were and didn't pull them!

The only bed that's really doing well is in the front yard by our driveway. Not everything i planted came up, but our peppermint zinnias are blooming and marigolds and cosmos should soon follow. And the hot peppers are flowering and the lavender plant we bought is lovely and the cinnamon basil i grew from seed is thriving. Oh, and the onions there are coming up, too. So i'm going to chalk that up for a big win and kind of ignore everything else. There's always next year.

(But i might be learning my lesson - start off with a lot less than you imagine you can do, because that will probably end up being more than enough.)
