It's got books! Lots of them

Today we finally unpacked the boxes and boxes of books that we had moved downstairs in order to give Penny her own room. Now there's one shelf in the office (kids books and nonfiction) and one shelf in the hallway full of (mostly) great literature. It was an unpacking-and-sorting-and-shelving marathon for me and now my arms and shoulders ache, but it's worth it. In forty-five minutes I got a lifetime of books put in their places. Which are not quite as well-organized as they used to be, but I'm cool with that. My old lit books got slightly special treatment and my paperback copy of The Little Minister naturally needed good books next to it for company, but other than that it was fairy slap-dash.

But still. Books are beautiful. I considered downsizing our library more, because I *can* get rid of books now, but what if Kaylen and Penelope want to put away their e-readers in the future and hold real books? I want them to have lots of options. And i look forward to busting out Little House in the Big Woods in a few more years to read aloud to the girls, and then the Chronicles of Narnia and Johnny Tremain and the Prydain Chronicles and so many other favorites!

And if someday they pick up the lays of Marie de France or want to read Seamus Heaney's poetry, well, i won't mind....
