- Got a check from Ebates for $20, which bought me a pair of very gently-used privo shoes off eBay. If you're not using Ebates yet, sign up! I am too tired to find my referral link, but it's totally worth it, imo. (So is shopping on eBay. And selling.)
- I'm making yogurt today for the first time in almost a year. And it is not fun when you have two small children. But i spent $4.50 total for a gallon of 2% milk plus a big bottle of half and half, and that was for products from Montana dairy farms that usually go for a whole lot more. (I always have made yogurt with marked-for-quick-sale milk, which hopefully is not a bad choice.) Anyway, i got over five quarts from that, so as long as it turns out, that's under $1 per quart. We usually go through about two quarts at $3 each per week, so you can see why it would be worth getting into a groove with making it again....
- Buying frozen produce. I used to be a snob and think frozen foods were for, maybe, losers. But i have definitely changed my tune. Gimme those frozen peas to feed my kids when i'm making a salad for me and Jason! I don't even bother to thaw them, because the girls like them frozen.
- Our garden lettuce is finally big enough for me to take some leaves for sandwiches, and we're getting the first of the radishes from our garden. Remembering how those those radishes are growing has saved me several times from the tempatation to buy grocery store radishes, cheap though they may be. Why buy something you'll be able to pick yourself in a short time?
That's really about it. This isn't meant to be a braggy post, by the way; it's to provide some much-needed encouragement to myself to persevere in being frugal. Because, as many of us know, kids are not cheap and staying at home is not a lucrative business, even if most days i wouldn't trade it.
