Fally fall fall

Actual cold weather? Not very fun yet. Of course, in six more months i will be busting out the flip-flops because it's 55 degrees, WO0T!

But i've started a fall garden and that excites me quite a lot, actually. The tomato jungle is still out there, plus sweet potatoes, so I'll plant all but onions in pots. So far i have radishes, a short variety of carrot (short as in stubby), basil and cilantro, arugula, bok choy, spinach, and cabbage. The radishes, basil, carrots, and arugula are coming up nicely so far; i don't hold out a ton of hope for cabbage, but hey, it's worth a try!

Sweet potatoes update: something is eating the leaves, so last night I dug up a plant to see if they're worth troubling over anymore. And I found two real, live sweet potatoes with purplish skins and crisp orange insides. Only a few inches long, but i'm very pleased.

Thanks to cooler weather, I don't have to keep the oven off anymore. So far I've made zucchini bread twice and also pumpkin bread and banana bread. Try putting sunflower seeds on top next time you make bread - it adds a delicious crunch. (Idea stolen from Starbucks.) Who knows, I might even start using the oven to cook dinner again....

Also, thanks to my mom, Kaylen and I have been enjoying pomegranate seeds this week:

Happy fall!
