I tried this once before in Norfolk and it was a big flop, but this time I did more research. I like that dyeing eggs with ingredients from around the house is cheaper than buying dye, is an experiment (ha! I only like when experiments turn out), and they just look pretty. (I don't like that there isn't a deep, dark red this way, though....)
Anyway, i tried three dyes: turmeric, brussels sprouts (to use up all the ones left in the freezer), and green pomegranate tea. The sprouts were a total failure -- and stunk -- but the turmeric was a nice yellow color and the tea a pretty shade of gray. The paler, speckly yellow ones were only in the turmeric for a few minutes, but the dark ones were wrapped in coffee filters like toffees and after 30-45 minutes they came out perfectly other than a few white spots. And i used rubberbands for my favorite, the gray stripey one. Overall, pretty fun and not much work.
